Every week, religous Jews read a portion or "parsha" of the Hebrew Bible, so that at the end of a year we've read the whole thing. Then we start all over again. Every week we create a comic based on that week's Torah portion. The Comic Torahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02255858587360506346noreply@blogger.comBlogger135125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25233446.post-63497763926162375312020-07-29T13:45:00.001-07:002020-07-29T13:45:56.474-07:00New Website 2020 Sharoncomics.comPlease visit Sharoncomics.comSharon Rosenzweighttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13907551549395722084noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25233446.post-43058773947505972452011-11-17T09:13:00.000-08:002011-11-17T09:13:49.190-08:00Democrats see minefield in Occupy protests - CBS News"The Occupy movement is rooted in the idea that the political system is broken to such a degree that we can no longer work through the Republican or Democratic parties,"

Democrats see minefield in Occupy protests - CBS NewsThe Comic Torahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02255858587360506346noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25233446.post-62238245094911232702011-11-17T05:25:00.000-08:002011-11-17T05:36:10.180-08:00The Wall Street Occupennial!
The Occupennial Art Database is an archive and clearinghouse for Occupy Wall Street art and actions, founded as a working group of the Arts and Culture Committee. The Comic Torah: Reimagining the
Very Good Book. Teaneck, NJ: Ben Yehuda Press, 2010. 112 pp. $35.00 hc
(9781934730539); $19.95 pbk. (9781934730546).

As Jews, we are supposed to study Torah and find meaning in our
interpretation of it. This book is a unique piece of midrash. Aaron
Freeman, a comedian and NPR commentator, and his wife Sharon
Rosenzweig, an artist, have created a series of 54 cartoon panels, one
for each weekly parashah. They tell the stories as no one has ever
told them. Some readers may find them irreverent, but the approach is
both humorous and thought-provoking. The portrayal of God as a woman
and the use of celebrity caricatures for biblical characters (Cheech
and Chong as Nadav and Abihu, Elliot Spitzer as Laban) are original.
Telling the story of the Jewish people as a romantic relationship
between Moses and God with elements of Family Feud added puts a
different spin on it. The authors encourage readers to la’asok
b’divrei Torah (immerse oneself in Torah), depicting themselves diving
into a Torah scroll on the title page. This is a true invitation to
study because, as the celebrity Joshua character says, “Yes we
Can-aan.” This will be a great source for discussion in Torah study
groups and book clubs in non-Orthodox congregations.

Barbara M. The commandment should be not to party like Nadav and Abihu i.e. get so carried away that Ya as got to burn you to death from the inside out - Oy, that's gotta hurt! The Comic Torahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02255858587360506346noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25233446.post-41456572557483829442010-07-29T14:26:00.000-07:002010-07-29T14:26:53.840-07:00Parsha Eikev - FluidsThe Comic Torahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02255858587360506346noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25233446.post-42971698357958230762010-07-23T09:02:00.000-07:002010-07-23T09:02:21.870-07:00Parshat V'etchanan - What's Yours is Mine - The Comic TorahThe Comic Torahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02255858587360506346noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25233446.post-56933003381635189282010-07-14T20:52:00.000-07:002010-07-14T20:54:22.669-07:00Parshat Devarim - Spies! The Comic Torahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02255858587360506346noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25233446.post-49896173507098114912010-07-03T11:16:00.000-07:002010-07-03T11:16:08.953-07:00Balak PodcastThe Comic Torahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02255858587360506346noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25233446.post-26960226840472129802009-07-02T13:12:00.001-07:002009-07-03T10:48:23.214-07:00Little Mishkan on the PrairieMy teacher and pal, Amichai Lau Lavie, and I performed a maven ritual
for the American Conference of Cantors. We interpreted a bit of
parshat Chukkat which instructs us to find, slaughter and burn a red
heifer. Most rabbis say the red heifer is just one of those odd,
unexplainable laws that we just have to accept., a classic "God only
knows why" statute. But during the discussion part of the ritual, one of the cantors, an
avuncular Heeb whose name ... OK, I never asked it, but anyway, as we
pondered the queer nature of the heifer, Uncle Cantor asked if anyone
had read "Little House On the Prairie." He went on to explain that
the Torah formula of cow plus an aromatic plant plus water and ash is
almost identical to "Little House's" recipe for soap. Making soap from
cow fat and ash is apparently a dirty job which requires a biiig clean
up of the soap maker, the instructions of which are also part of the
commanded biblical ritual.

I choose to think of this as a smoking gun, proof certain that one of
the most perplexing of our god's commandments was just something She
picked up on a library shelf. The Comic Torahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02255858587360506346noreply@blogger.com23tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25233446.post-65450365707113774052009-06-23T15:16:00.001-07:002009-06-23T15:16:01.128-07:00Parshat Shlach

The Comic Torahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02255858587360506346noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25233446.post-45204976896859899192009-06-22T04:30:00.001-07:002009-06-22T04:30:07.069-07:00Parshat Shlach

The Comic Torahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02255858587360506346noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25233446.post-67231832844579602302009-04-29T05:58:00.000-07:002009-04-29T05:58:30.037-07:00Talmud ComicsTalmud ComicsThe Comic Torahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02255858587360506346noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25233446.post-7625900772415796472009-01-10T13:46:00.000-08:002009-01-10T13:46:26.627-08:00TorahComposition.jpg (JPEG Image, 720x540 pixels) - Scaled (88%)TorahComposition.jpg (JPEG Image, 720x540 pixels) - Scaled (88%)The Comic Torahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02255858587360506346noreply@blogger.com189tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25233446.post-74209605756800262832009-01-10T13:42:00.000-08:002009-01-10T13:42:23.755-08:00offspring-adam-2x-00.gif (GIF Image, 2136x1580 pixels)offspring-adam-2x-00.gif (GIF Image, 2136x1580 pixels)The Comic Torahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02255858587360506346noreply@blogger.com143
